Session Recap!

The players started their tenth session after completing their original mission of safely finding the Hucrele twins! This also marks the first time that the party will transition to original content created by the me, the DM, which is really exciting!

At the onset of the most recent session, the party stands over the remains of the just-destroyed Gulthias Tree, the entity responsible for enthralling Sharwyn and Sir Braford and creating the Twig Blights that were spreading on the surface. They also prevented Belak the Outcast's escape, the human who manipulated the goblins into working for him and the tree, and was helping to sow the Twig Blights across the land.

They loot the surrounding area, aquiring some health potions, antitoxins, and goggles that help them see in the dark. Before they depart, though, a black, misty entity appears over the remains of the tree and does nothing besides study the party before vanishing.

Unnerved, the party quickly tries to leave the area, but make a stop at Belak's study to see what he left behind. However, they find the misty creature again, but this time it was hovering over a glittering gem. It quickly vanished yet again. Myev retrieved the gem and discovered that it fit perfectly into a dragon statue they found earlier. Excited, they rushed back to the statue.

Upon placing the gem on the statue, a new area open up. The new path delved deeper into the dungeon, seemingly descending into a system of subterranean tunnels.

Sir Braford

It was then that Sir Braford and Sharwyn said that they inspected their escape route, and found that it had been destroyed. They also noticed that all the goblins that were previously working in the area are no longer there as well. With no other options, they decided that the newly opened path was their only option.

This excited the wily Mordai, who wanted nothing then to charge into the path with a chaotic zeal. He was restrained by Myev and Sir Braford, though, who were relatively spent in their battle with Belak and the tree and wanted to spend a night's rest before leaving for the tunnels.

The shifts of watch that everyone took didn't stop Mordai, though, who cast Invisibility on himself and slipped into the tunnels by himself. This proved to be a less-than-wise decision, and the sights and sounds of the tunnel began to shake him to his core. He nearly uncovered some dialog spoken by inhabitants of the tunnels before coming face to face with a wispy, scary ghost. This ghost was able to take possession of Mordai's body and take him deeper into the caves.

About an hour after his escape, Myev noticed that Mordai was gone. They gathered Berov and Glacien, who were able to get a short rest and ventured into the tunnels to try and find Mordai. Prowling carefully through the entrance, Berov recognized the area as an opening to the Underdark, a terrifying place with no government and unruly creatures not bound by any moral code. It is also home to many evil beings, like the Dark Elves, Beholders, and Mind Flayers.

Eventually, they come to a humid chamber with a deep pool in the center. They find another ghost and a large group of Myconids that surround Mordai's possessed body.

Anddddd... that's where session ended! We'll pick up next week with the players rolling initiative and beginning combat to try and get their silly friend back! Next week, they might expect to explore the Underdark some more and perhaps meet some new mysterious companions...?
