After many more hours of travel, the party finally came across a large gate guarded by a mechanical jade spider. They destroyed the spider and crossed the gate, but were intercepted my more Drow elves. These Drow claimed that they had been trailing the team of surfacers for some time and was collecting information on them. The leader of this group, a woman named Ishtar, offered something of a deal between them, but first said that she will escort them to Menzoberranzan, the Drow city and the party's goal. Without much of a choice, they decided to follow Ishtar and her team.
At her compound, Ishtar told the party that she and her cadre sought to revolutionize Menzoberranzan and bring about radical change to her people and reform their less-than-friendly practices. However, in exchance for her help in getting them out of the Underdark, Ishtar had a series of pacts that she wanted them to sign. They basically ask that they return to the Underdark when she summons them and asks that they assist in whatever way she requests.
Mordai agreed to sign the pact, and so he was bound to the agreement written in the pact. There were additional pacts that he could evoke that would gain him additional support from Ishtar, but he would also owe more to her in return.
The party rested for the night after exploring the city's market area under guard. The following day, Ishtar and her cadre acted true to their word and escorted them out of the Underdark. The path they followed took them back to the kobold compound in the Sunless Citadel. However, upon their return, they found that the compund was empty...
